Capilano Film Study Centre
This new four-storey, 43,000 SF Film Study Centre provides an iconic presence on the newly accredited university campus. The structure, in the form of a 400 foot long, fourth-storey bridge like “bar”, houses classrooms and laboratories and does much to contribute. Supported by the three concrete cores, the two massive steel trusses dramatically free span over the building and extend over the bus loop area at one end.
The complex program included in this state-of-the-art facility lead to dramatically different spaces, from standard office and classrooms to world class film studios. To achieve efficiency, the structural concept responds to the different requirements of these spaces with the use of various structural systems and materials, including tilt-up concrete and steel construction for the main film studio, almost a building in itself, and exposed post and beam glulam frames with composite solid wood panel decking in the office and lobby areas.
