Adohi Hall at University of Arkansas
Adohi Hall was, at the time of completion, the largest cross laminated timber (CLT) building in the United States and the first large-scale mass timber residence hall. The 708 bed, 202,000 SF structure creates a new residential college with emphasis on a creative live learn environment within a relaxed, informal, tree-lined landscape that re-conceptualizes university housing.
The superstructure consists of a glue-laminated timber post and beam structure and CLT decking. Lateral resistance is provided by reinforced concrete stair and elevator cores, which were required by the local authorities for fire resistance. Elegant and expressive hybrid timber and steel trusses span over the common areas, providing a pleasant and playful space for students to socialize and relax.
