This new four-storey, 4,000 m2 Film Study Centre facility provides an iconic presence on the newly accredited university campus. The structure, particularly in the form of a 400 foot long, fourth-storey bridge like "bar" which houses classrooms and laboratories, does much to contribute.
Supported by the three concrete cores, the two massive steel trusses dramatically free span over the building and extends over the bus loop area.
The complex program included in this state-of-the-art facility lead to dramatically different spaces, from standard office and classrooms to world class film studio spaces.
To achieve efficiency, the structural concept responds to the different requirements of these spaces with the use of different structural systems and materials including tilt-up and steel construction for the main film studio, almost a building in itself, and the use of exposed post and beam glulam frames with composite and non-composite solid wood panel decking in the office and lobby areas.
